What will a performer go through daily?
Place of work, Working conditions, Hours.
Being a performer is tough. They will experience being under pressure regularly, and have to met expectations for the company. This may mean carrying out their own rehearsals in their own time so that the company can move on and keep up to date with rehearsals.
A performers day will usually consist of long hours (the same as the rest of the company during long rehearsal days) They will have often work 10-12 hour days, maybe even longer sometimes with only one break and several small breaks to get water!
During these long hours, they will have to under go (most likely) a dance warm up - 1 hour/1 hour and a half, then learning dance routines, learning songs, blocking scenes etc... These rehearsals will most likely take place in mirrored dance studios and nearer to the date of the production, they will move into the theatre in order for specific blocking to take place and in order to the stage team to tech the show.
Performers hours will change quite a lot, and this is why they need to be quite flexible in order to keep up with the changes! they will go from day rehearsals to going straight into the show and having several shows a day all week, which will become a lot longer and more intense for the performers to keep up with.
For west end performers, you will usually work in studios for rehearsal and then transfer to a theatre when you are closer to the performance, in order for tech and dress runs. However, there are many different types of performers! The place of work will vary depending on the type of 'performer' you are. Not all performers are on the west end! Some people could be working on holiday parks, cruises, hotels abroad, world tours (musicals and music tours) etc... the list goes on and on! Obviously, your place of work will depend upon where you are performing! (But we all know that you'll be on stage most of the time anyway!)
